Pick Up a Racquet and Join the Party in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Indiana – The biggest tennis party ever is coming to your neighborhood.
Throughout the month of May the USTA is serving up an ambitious and exciting
community initiative with a series of “tennis block parties” in markets nationwide. The
Tennis Block Parties will bring new ways to involve and expose new and existing players
to the unparalleled health and social benefits of tennis.

The South Bend Block Party will be held on Friday, May 29 , at the Leeper Tennis
Center, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The Leeper Tennis Center is located at 837 N.
Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, west of Memorial Hospital. Rain date is scheduled for

June 5 .
Hosted at public park facilities, Tennis Block Parties will feature three hours of tennis
instructions, interactive games, and attractions offering people of all ages and abilities
the opportunity to learn and enjoy the benefits of the game – from fun and competition
to lifestyle and fitness. Skilled teaching professionals, accomplished touring pros, and
special guests will guide attendees through games and skills during this day of fun and
learning.
Tennis Block Party events and attractions include:
?Quick Start Tennis, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
?Adult Tennis Instruction, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
?Open Play, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Quick Start Tennis is directed towards the younger player. It uses smaller equipment,
and softer tennis balls that will not move as quick. This is the teaching method the
South Bend Parks & Recreation Department will use all summer for teaching young new
players.

“Spring brings a new attention to fitness, and tennis offers unparalleled ways to have
fun and get into shape,” said Ray Comer, Athletics Supervisor for South Bend Parks &
Recreation Department. “The Tennis Block Parties celebrate the sport and provide a
new way for people to get out and play.”
This event is sponsored by the South Bend Parks & Recreation Department, the South
Bend Tennis Association, and the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
