Bill No. 09-16 -Tax Abatement 2001 W. Washington (Personal)
Bill Nos. 09-15 and 09-16 are petitions by Royal Adhesives for real and personal abatement
respectively to facilitate the expansion of their facility allowing new construction and the creation
of jobs at their site on West Washington.
Tim Rouse, Chairperson, asked Bob Mathia to present the particulars of the petitions to the
Committee. Subsequently, Mathia introduced Gary Steinke the CFO of Royal Adhesives.
Together they spoke of job creation indicating 28 positions, 16 blue collar production jobs at $15 -
$18 an hour, and 12 white collarjobs at $70,000 plus per year. An old O'Brien Paint bldg would
be demolished and a new facility constructed. Councilmember Oliver Davis asked about a
timeline for hiring. Steinke hoped for blue collar hiring by late summer, white collar by the end of
the year. He added that Royal intended to work with local agencies including neighborhood
organizations to seek employees. Councilmember Henry Davis endorsed the city's and Royal's
efforts to keep investment and jobs on the West Side. On Councilmember Henry Davis' motion,
seconded by Councilmember Puzzello with support from all the bills go to Council favorably.
