AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND ESTABLISHING THREE POLICE GRANT FUNDS
IN THE SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT
Statement of Purpose and Intent
This ordinance establishes three new Police Grant Funds in the South
Bend Police Department. Currently the Police Department is administering
several Federal and State funded grants and is continually investigating
additional grant funding sources. To improve accounting efficiency and to
avoid the commingling of funds from various grants, the new funds created by
this ordinance will establish several new cost centers. Fund 280 Police Block Grants
will be the source for the accounts for all Federal Block Grants, Fund 292 Police
Grants will be the source for the accounts for State Grants and Fund 295 COPS
More Grants will be the source for the accounts for all Federal COPS More Grants.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
Section I. Three new funds are created within the budget of the City of
South Bend, namely Fund # 280 Police Block Grants, Fund # 292 Police Grants,
and Fund # 295 COPS More Grants.
Section II. All sums of money deposited in either fund as distributed by
Federal and State grants shall be used solely for the purposes as stated in the
grant applications.
Section III. Any and all interest earned on monies deposited in Fund # 280
Police Block Grants, Fund # 292 Police Grants and Fund # 295 COPS More Grants,
shall remain in the fund.
Section IV. Monies remaining in each respective fund at the end of the
f seal year shall remain in each respective fund and not revert to any other fund.
Section V. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.

Dear Mr. Coleman:
Attached for filing with the South Bend Common Council is an
ordinance establishing three police grant funds within the South
Bend Police Department.
The purpose of the ordinance is to better administer several
federal and state grants and improve accounting efficiency and to
avoid the commingling of funds from the various grants.
The funds to be created are as follows: Fund #280 Police Block
Grants, Fund #292 Police Grants and Fund # 295 COPS More Grants.
