(419–ir `F� - -- A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA PUBLICLY THANKING VALERIE SCHEY FOR ONE 4- YEAR TERM OF PUBLIC SERVICE AS THE 3RD DISTRICT COUNCIL MEMBER elifienae,the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that in 2005, Valerie Schey moved with her husband from Glenview, Illinois,to South Bend; and G} , as an active volunteer at the South Bend Animal Care and Control beginning in 2008,Valerie become involved with several other local community events, and decided to run for the 3`d District Council seat in 2011. Seeking political office for the first time, she stressed job creation as her top priority advocating for "a living wage, good benefits and opportunities for advancement",along with voicing her concern that only 78%of the city residents 25 years or older were high school graduates, while at that time, 85% were high school graduates at the national level; and after running unopposed in the City Primary, Valerie was elected in the General Election where she stated that"I will work to make fair and balanced decisions based on the issues and the input I receive from my constituents". ate: Section I. On behalf of all of the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council, and in particular the residents of the 3`d District, thank and commend Valerie Schey for serving on the Common Council from 2012-2015. Section II. Perhaps one of the most successful projects which Valerie Schey dedicated many hours to was her leadership in overseeing a special Council ad hoc committee which resulted in the passage of Ordinance No. 10309-14 on May 28, 2014, which is now codified into the South Bend Municipal Code addressing "Responsible Animal and Pet Ownership Care and Control Regulations". The Council wishes Valerie continued success as she begins a new chapter in her life with her husband, John, and her many 4-legged tailed-friends. Section III.
