Q erl J ) A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA PUBLICLY THANKING HENRY DAVIS,JR. FOR TWO 4-YEAR TERMS OF PUBLIC SERVICE AS THE 2ND DISTRICT COUNCIL MEMBER G following his graduation from LaSalle High School, Henry Davis, Jr., this LaSalle Lion went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham College, where he majored in fine arts and the classics. After marrying, Henry and his wife, Viressa, chose to raise their family in South Bend; and eliiatts, in 2007, South Bend-born Henry Davis, Jr., defeated the 12-year incumbent 2"d District Council Member in the City Primary where he focused on "encouraging citizen participation [and] demanding transparency in our local government", as well as "...empowering the economically disadvantaged". He ran unopposed in the General Election that year; won a contested City Primary and was re-elected without opposition in the Fall of 2011 for his 2nd 4-year term as the 2"d District Council Member; and Gj during his years in the city legislative branch, Council Member Davis was very vocal in stressing the"need to work more aggressively to recruit employers and remain in communication with national companies that have operations in South Bend"; he voiced the need "to grow for-profit businesses, especially in the 2nd District with the availability of good jobs helping to solve other problems such as crime and vacant housing"; and Gam, some of the legislative initiatives which Council Member Davis sponsored or co-sponsored over the years addressed improving zoning regulations addressing used car operations; adding requirements on vacant & abandoned buildings, downspouts; MBE/WBE; proposing urban chicken regulations, CNG regulations, riverfront development district liquor licensing, whistleblower protection for City workers; resolutions calling for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to be a City holiday, urging the South Bend Community School Corporation Board of Trustees not to lower standards of student-athletes who wish to participate in interscholastic athletics; urging a public/private partnership for the Potawatomi Zoo; supporting the Violence Against Women's Act, supporting the MDA Muscle Walk, supporting raising fair minimum wages, honored Bobbie Magley, Seabe Gavin, Angel Hernandez, Heroes Camp, Mamas Against Violence, South Bend Senior League Girls' Softball team, declared Child Abuse Prevention Month; as well as countless 2"d District Special Proclamations; & many news releases addressing concerns such as Beck's Lake Site being added to the National Superfund Priorities List, lobbied for new park equipment at Kennedy Park&honorary street name changes for Pastor Dave Davis & Al Carothers, founded"Hair Kutz 4 Kids', &participated on several City negotiating teams—just to name a few. 2i«a', Mygres IearaIn*die z tilivametwieNiamgiend fhaen, aflame: Section I. The Common Council sincerely wishes Henry, his wife Viressa, and their son, HD III, all the best in the years ahead, as they continue to live and enjoy the many venues which South Bend has to offer. ection III.
