Agenda: Bill No. 15-98 Encourage Public Participation on City of South
Bend Flag Design Contest and Setting Rules&
Regulations for Formal Approval
The Community Relations Committee was called to order by its Chair Karen White who noted there was
not a quorum present and no vote could be taken on the bill.
The one agenda item bill 15-98 was a resolution to heighten awareness of the ongoing city flag design
contest. Both Tim Scott and Gavin Ferlic had co-sponsored this resolution. The presentation was made
by Aaron Perri, Director of Downtown South Bend Inc. (DTSB)Aaron enthusiastically explained the
contest and with the help of a video,the basic elements of good flag design. He said city flags play an
important role in building local pride and loyalty, as well as providing a great opportunity for public
participation in this year's sesquitennual. This resolution was aimed at increasing citizen participation in
the contest. The contest deadline originally set for November 16th was to be extended to November
23`d.
Council President Tim Scott spoke enthusiastically about getting involved in the contest.
After further discussion Karen White adjourned at 5:28 P.M.
