HARRIS, JR. FOR HIS DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE AS A SOUTH BEND COUNCILMAN-AT-LARGE WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council notes with pride the evening of July 15, 1982, when John J. Harris, Jr. won the special election by Precinct Committeemen to fill a vacated Council seat; and WHEREAS, the ComJhon .Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana recognizes that John J. Harris, Jr. has diligently served the citizens of South Bend as a Councilman-at-Large since his election; and WHEREAS, Councilman Harris has chaired the Public Safety Committee of the Common Council and has served on all issues presented to him; and WHEREAS, Councilman Harris has established a reputation of fairness and willingness to listen to persons on all issues presented to him; and WHEREAS, the Common Council hopes that Councilman Harris will continue to stay active in public life and will continue to let his voice be heard on such important topics as affirmative action. policies, downtown development, and other civic projects. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends and thanks Councilman John J. Harris, Jr. for his dedicated public service as a Councilman-at-Large. SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges Councilman Harris' contributions to help improve the City of South Bend, and wishes him and his wife of 42 years, Allean, continued good fortune in the years ahead, and hopes that he will continue to share his special concern for this community with each of us.
