CITY ACCEPTS PRESIDENT OBAMA'S MY BROTHER'S KEEPER COMMUNITY CHALLENGE
The City of South Bend has accepted President Barack Obama's call to action to become a
My Brother's Keeper community, the city announced Thursday. The MBK Community
Challenge seeks to address opportunity gaps, especially those faced by boys and young men of
color, to ensure that all young people can reach their full potential.
"Our community is organized and energized to achieve the goals of My Brother's Keeper,"
Mayor Buttigieg says. "Like the rest of America, South Bend cannot achieve its full potential as
long as major disparities in persist between young men of color and the rest of the community.
This challenge will help to galvanize our community to address these inequalities so that all our
residents can thrive."
The MBK Community Challenge encourages communities to implement a cradle-to- college -and-
career strategy intended to improve the outcomes for young people regardless of who they are,
where they come from, or the circumstances into which they are born. Nearly 200 mayors, tribal
leaders, and county executives across 43 states and the District of Columbia have accepted the
MBK Community Challenge.
