BUTTIGIEG ANNOUNCES VETS' COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS PARTNERSHIP
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announces that South Bend will be one of three communities
across the nation joining San Diego and Maricopa, Arizona —to participate in Vets'
Community Connections, an initiative to help military personnel and their families transition to
life post - deployment.
"Assisting with reintegration is especially important as so many troops return home from
extended periods of service," Mayor Pete Buttigieg says. "Vets' Community Connections will
help military families successfully navigate the challenges in health, work, and relationships that
occur as they make this difficult transition."
There are two components to the Vets' Community Connections program. The City asks
residents to volunteer in their own area of expertise to assist veterans on an individual basis. The
City also asks businesses, if they are able, to offer a discount to veterans. Interested volunteers
and businesses can find more information and register at southbendin.gov /vets - community-
connections -form.
After January 15, 2016, veterans and those on active duty, as well as their spouses, can call 311
to receive contact information for volunteers who can provide assistance most relevant to the
service member's needs.
