RESOLUTION NO. 1202-84
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING
THE VICTORIOUS MISHAWAKA RAFT RACE
TEAM
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, notes that the City of South Bend hosted the 84th
State Conference of the Indiana Association of Cities and
Towns ; and
WHEREAS , the IACT Conference was held from September 17th
through September 20th, and attracted hundreds of City and
Town officials from throughout the State of Indiana; and
WHEREAS , as a part of the IACT activities , some of the
South Bend City Officials specifically challenged the City of
Mishawaka to compete in a raft race down the newly opened and
dedicated East Race; and
WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council wishes to commend
all participants and specifically: Dorothy "Dottie" Wayne of
the Mishawaka Common Council; Jan Opfel, City Clerk of Misha-
waka; Kathie Rogers , Director of Mishawaka' s Battell Center ;
and Harold Kwiatkowski, Councilmember of Muncie who assisted
the victorious Mishawaka Team; and
WHEREAS , the Council also wishes to acknowledge members
of the South Bend Team: Council President Beverlie J. Beck;
Councilmember Ann B. Puzzello; and Engineer John Ferrar, who
assisted the South Bend Team as they made a gallant attempt
to outdistance the Mishawaka Team.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of
the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows :
SECTION I . On behalf of the citizens of the City of South
Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends all
participants of the Raft Race Teams who competed during the
Indiana Association of Cities and Towns conference held in South
Bend, Indiana, on September 18, 1984, and particularly, the
winning team from Mishawaka. -
SECTION II. This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council , and
approval by the Mayor.
