RESOLUTION NO. 1208-84
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, CONTENDING PAUL EDDY
FOR HIS WORK AS A LIFEGUARD AT THE EAST RACE.
WHEREAS , the Common Council of the City of South Bend ,
Indiana, notes with pride the East Race which was dedicated
in June of 1984; and
WHEREAS , the Council acknowledges the many hardworking
Park Department employees and professionally trained water
enthusiasts who have greatly contributed to the success and
safety of the East Race ; and
WHEREAS, the Council wishes to specifically commend
lifeguard Paul Eddy who assisted Council President Beverlie J .
Beck in her unscheduled ride down the East Race without her raft
during the week of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns
conference held in South Bend, September 17th through September
20th; and
WHEREAS, Paul Eddy helped President Beck "come out smiling"
as they maneuvered together around, between, and even over the
many water obstacles and tumbled with the East Race waters ; and
WHEREAS , upon ending her wet and watery journey, Council
President Beck was ready to ride the waves again, thanks to Paul
Eddy' s words of encouragement; and
WHEREAS , individuals like Paul Eddy are the "silent heroes"
who encourage all of us to partake in new adventures and who
assure the safety at South Bend' s newest public attraction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows :
SECTION I . On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana,
the Common Council hereby publicly commends lifeguard Paul Eddy,
and all of the other hardworking Park Department employees and
all of the professionally trained water enthusiasts who , because
of their talent and dedication, are making the East Race one of
the most popular and safest attractions in the Michiana area.
SECTION II. The Council wishes to thank all participants
who raced in the raft races during the Indiana Association of
Cities and Towns conference which was held in South Bend during
the week of September 17th, and all of the Park Department employees
and trained lifeguards who diligently worked along the East Race .
Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage by the Common Council, and approval
by the Mayor.
