THE UNITED NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO ASSURE CONTINUED FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT-OF AGING AND COMUNITY SERVICES WHEREAS, the United Neighborhood Council is allocated funds from the. Indiana Department of Aging and Community Services to fund six (6) neighborhood centers in St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Fulton, and Kosciusko Counties; and WHEREAS , in trying to establish United Neighborhood Council as an effective community action program agency, services such as health_ screening clinics, energy assistance , tutoring, counseling, and programs for youth and senior citizens have been provided through the neighborhood centers with the funding assistance from the Department of Aging and Community :Services ; and WHEREAS, the Common Council notes however, that the United Neighborhood Council has been notified by the State' s Department of Aging and Community Services of serious concerns of its ' operation which may affect continued funding of the Council; and WHEREAS , in light of the monitoring report released by Jean Merritt, Executive Director of the. Department of Aging and Community Services, the Common Council urges` the -United Neighborhood Council to take all necessary corrective measures so that future funding of such needed community service programs will not be jeopardized, NOW, THEREFORE, BE: IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South_ Bend, Indiana, as follows; SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, wishes to thank Jean Merritt, Executive. Director of the State's Department of Aging and Community Services for bringing to light the monitoring review- report of the United Neighborhood Council. SECTION U. The Council urges the board members of the. United Neighborhood Council to review all of the corrective measures recommended by the State -agency, and after complete deliberations , to take all necessary steps to assure that funding will continue throughout 1985 for the many needed Community service programs offered by the neighborhood centers. SECTION III. The Council requests the City Clerk to send a copy of this Resolution to the United Neighborhood Council Board President, Otis Romine. SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full, force and effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council , and approval by the Mayor. - 1 .
