Inland Distributing is a distributor of building materials which has three locations in Indiana. There is one here in South Bend, one in Elkhart and one in Fort Wayne. The South Bend location is the oldest and least efficient of the other locations and if the present location is to remain an office for Inland Distributing, it would have to be- come more efficient. The proposed addition will expand the present facility by adding some 50,000 square feet of warehouse space. The appro- val of the tax abatement will insure the continuation of the pro- ject and will result in at least five new jobs being created as well as preserving 45 jobs which are presently existing at the facility. The new jobs will add an additional $100, 000.00 per year to the payroll which is presently totalling around $1, 000, 000. 00. The expansion and construction project is viewed as an economic furtherance to the City of South Bend and in line with the Enterprise Zone status in which this project is located. The expansion will not have an adverse effect on any competing busi- ness now existing in the City of South Bend. The nearest compe- tition that Inland Distributing faces is in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Any other information necessary can be supplied by In- land Distributing or by myself and I would request that the Peti- tion for Tax Abatement be approved. Sincerely FCB: sab rederick C. Bo, *-
