PNA demo budget (J/J/
On September 25, the Commission approved a professional services proposal for an asbestos
inspection report for the Polish National Alliance# 83 (PNA), in anticipation of the demolition
of the building at the northwest corner of Olive & Western. This approval was subject to
Common Council approval on September 28 forthe property's acquisition, which was granted.
On October 9, the City closed on the property and now has ownership, subject to a 30 day
date of possession to allow the PNA to clear their personal property from the building.
In this 30 day period, demo specs will be written, receipt of bids advertised, and it is expected
to award the demo at the November 10 Board of Public Works meeting.
The City acquired this property for intersection improvements at this busy intersection. The
PNA building sits right at the corner, hindering truck traffic and line of sight for oncoming
vehicles. This intersection improvement will dovetail nicely with the planned 2016 Western
Avenue corridor improvements.
To fund the demo project, staff requests approval of a $250,000 budget from the River West
Development Area.
