WHEREAS, the ('anon Council. of the City of South Rend,
Indiana, notes that Bever lie J. Beck was the first woman eln---ted
to serve as •President of the Common Council on January 1, 1983;
and
WHEREAS,. Council President Reck was elected each year
thereafter to serve in the Presidential capacity through 1986; and
WHEREAS, Council President Beck has fostered an image of
speaking with candor and forthrightness; and
WHEREAS, Council President Beck will tong be remembered as
following up on every telephone call or letter sent to her and
working long into the evenings and on weekends on Council.
