RESOLUTION NO. 1497-87
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
DESIGNATING MAY 10th THROUGH MAY 16th AS
"MUNICIPAL CLERK 'S WEEK"
IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
WHEREAS , the Common Council acknowledges that thousands of
county, city, town, township , village and borough clerks through-
out the United States and Canada will be observing "Municipal

Clerk' s Week" the week of May 10 through May 16, 1987; and
WHEREAS , the Council notes that this annual celebration is
being sponsored by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks
(I . I.M.C. ) and has been observed for the past seventeen (17)
years ; and
WHEREAS , this year ' s focal point is to emphasize the
importance of the office of the municipal clerk in local
governmental operations ; and
WHEREAS , the Common Council desires to specifically
acknowledge the critical role which the Office of the City Clerk
plays in carrying out effective and efficient services to the
general public , the City Administration , and the Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend ; Indiana , as follows :
SECTION I . The South Bend Common Council recognizes the
essential duties which municipal clerks carry out throughout our
nation in fostering responsive local government .
SECTION II . The Council commends all municipal clerks and,
in particular , Irene Gammon and her staff and , in recognition
thereof , declares May 10th through May 16th as "Muncipal Clerk ' s
Week" in South Bend , Indiana.
SECTION III . The Common Council is proud to be a part of the
international celebration sponsored by the International Institute
of Municipal Clerks and commends this organization ' s educational ,
research , and informational services rendered to its 8 ,000 members .
SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council and
approval by the Mayor .
