RESOLUTION NO. 1513-87
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
PUBLICLY COMMENDING ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO CONTRIBUTED
THEIR TALENTS IN THE MAKING OF
"URBAN WHITEWATER ' 86"
WHEREAS , the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana , notes with pride that the film entitled "Urban
Whitewater '86" was awarded a bronze medal by the International
Film and Television Festival of New York; and
WHEREAS , of the eleven (11) nominees entered from such
countries as the Netherlands and South Wales and such cities as
Chicago and Seattle, "Urban Whitewater '86" was judged to be the
third best in the category of "Special Sports Presentation" in
the world for 1986; and
WHEREAS, "Urban Whitewater '86" portrayed the Whitewater
Slalom competition which took place on the East Race Waterway on
June 21 and 22 , 1986; and
WHEREAS, several innovative techniques were employed
including attaching a lightweight broadcast camera to a kayak so
that the television viewers could experience an actual trip down
the rapids of the East Race while in the comfort of their homes;
and
WHEREAS, four of the eight strategically positioned cameras
were damaged by violent thunderstorms during the filming of
"Urban Whitewater '86" ; yet a superb film presentation was
produced despite such adversities; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council would like to specifically
commend and thank all of the following individuals who
contributed their time and talents in the making of "Urban
Whitewater '86" :

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend , Indiana , as follows :
SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of
South Bend , Indiana , the Common Council wishes to publicly
commend all of the individuals who contributed their time and .
talents in the production of "Urban Whitewater '86. "
SECTION II. The Common Council wishes to commend these same
dedicated professionals in being awarded a bronze medal and
placing third in the Special Sports Presentation category by the
International Film and Television Festival of New York for "Urban
Whitewater '86 . "
SECTION III . The Common Council believes that by
accentuating such events as the East Race Waterway through "Urban
Whitewater '86" and other slalom and kayak competitions, the City
of South Bend will truly become "Alive with Pride. "
SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council and
approval (by the Mayor. /fit
