SECTION II , That section 815 of Ordinance #2928 be, and the same is hereby repealed. SECTION III — That section 816 of Ordinance #2928 be amended to read as follows: $16 —A At the time application is made for vision of this Ordinance, the applicant ment the following fees: (A) — Outlets and fixture8. a permit to work under the pro — shall pay to the building depart. 1 to 3- »------- ------- $.25 3 to 5--------- - - - - -- f,50 5 to 10 -------------- 1.00 10 to 20 ------------ 1.00 20 to 30-------- - - - -1, 50 30 to 50 ------------- 1.90 above 50 ------------- 2.50 plus $,05 for each above 10 If ,0 n n If 20 If X03 o u a 30 ,02 n a 11 50 (F) Fees for power shall be $1.00 for the first 5 horsepower or fraction thereof and $.10 for each additional horsepower or fraction there- of. In case of replacing one motor with another where no change is required in the wiring, the fee shall be one half of the above. (G) Fees for rectifiers, residence ventilating fans, electric range, water heater, service, refrigerator, oilburner, stoker and all other small motor, shall be $1.00. In case more than one of the above mentioned units are in- stalled at the same time by the some contractor and under the same permit, the fee shall be $1,00, )I) Where any person shall unlawfully do any work covered by this ordinance without first obtaining a permit to do so, he shall pay the above fee with a penalty of $5,00 and the payment of such penalty shall not re- lease him or them from other penalties provided in this Ordinance. (S) A permit fee shall be charged for any temporary connection for any circus, carnival or an exhibit of any nature, This applies whether or not the current is supplied or furnished by the local power company or a portable plant or any other source. The fee shall be not less than $3.00 and not more than $10,00 and this work must be under the supervision of a holder of a Class A City license. (L) Permits shall be secured as soon as work is started; If work is such that the exact number of outlets, fixtures or horsepower be unknown, a. permit shall be taken for the minimum or any number and a correction made when work is completed, Class B -- Authorizing any person as corporation not engaged in the general work covered by this Ordinance at only application or license. No person shall hold more The fee for such license al thereof, $10.00. Class C -- an employee of any person, firm or electrical contracting business to do such addresses as are listed on his then one Class B license at one time, shall be $25.00 and the annual renew— Operator when on duty shall display in plain view, his license with his photograph attached thereto, Each operator shall also furnish his photograph to be attach- ed to his card in the files of the Electrical Inspection Department of the Building Department. Class D - -- Authorizing the sale of approved electrical appliances, a.pp- aratus, devices and materials designed to be a part of or attached to any electrical circuit for light, heat or power. The fee for such license shall be 410.00 and the annual re- newal thereof, $5.00, (F) The sale of refrigerators, stokers, oil burners, air condition- ers, ventillating fans, rian les and all other electrical equipment of one — fourth horse power (4HP or more shall be reported to the Building Department within 48 hours after the sale. Fai ure to abide by this action of the Ordinance is sufficient cause for re 1 of license. That in section 822 of Ordinance #2925, four words in the Twelfth line reading — "taken -from this code" be stricken out. That there be added to the 46th line of "and a Class C Motion Picture Operator," At the time of application for Class A, shall pay $5,00 to cover cost of Examination. section, the word "only" be as to read, — "Examinations the same section, the words the same section, the words B, and C license, applicant SECTION IV— That the City of South Bend hereby designates the 1935 National Electrical Code end its amendments as a. part of the Building Code of the City of South Bend and further that any and all amendments made to said National Electrical Code which shall be made by the National Board of Fire Underwriters in a regular meeting assembled shall automatically become a. part of the rules and requirements of the Building Department of the City of South Bend, excepting such parts of said National Code which are less restrictive or in conflict with the Building Code of said Civil City of South Bend, And that said requirements shall be operative and re- gulatory upon all parties coming under authority of said code of the said Building Department of said City and any person or persons seeking to enjoy the privileges set forth in said code shall fully comply with such amendments that shall be properly promulgated by said body. SECTION V — This Ordinance shall be its passage and legal publication, in conflict with these provisions in full force and effect on and after All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances are hereby repealed. 1B R OF T HE COMMON COUNCIL ORDINANCE NO. 3141 as amended AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE #2243 AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE #2925, THE SAME BEING AN ORDINANCE REGULATING ALL MATTERS CONCERNING OR PER- TAINING TO THE CONSTRUCTION, ALTERATION, REPAIR OR ADDITIONS TO, RE- MODELING, USE OR OCCUPACY OF BUILDINGS OR THEIR PARTS AND STRUCTURES OF EVERY NATURE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA; PROVIDING FOR THE CONDEMNATION AND STOPPAGE OF THE USE THEREOF, AND THE WRECKING OF THE SAME, CREATING THE OFFICE OF BUILDING COMMISSIONER, ASSISTANT BUILD- ING COMMISSIONER AND CITY ELECTRICIAN AND PROVIDING FOR THE OFFICE OF THE BUILDING DEP$RTMENT, REPEALING ALL FORMER ORDINANCES OR PARTS THEREOF CONFLICTING THEREWITH ADOPTED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, MARCH 27, 1982 AND APPROVED BY THE MAYOR MARCH30, 1922 AND PUBLISHED APRIL 6th OF THE SAME YEAR, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE BUILDING CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA; AND ADOPTING THE 1935 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE AND ITS AMENDMENTS AS A PART OF THIS ORDINANCE, EXCEPTING SUCH PARTS OF WHICH ARE LESS RESTRICTIVE Olk IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana; SECTION I — That section 514 of Ordinance #2925 be amended to read as follows: WIRING AND APPARATUS — GENERAL PROVISIONS 914—A All electrical work hereafter installed in the City of South Bend, Indiana shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the stand- ards of this code. All wiring for lighting, heating and power shall be installed in rigid metal conduit or electrical metallic tube when with— in the Fire or Fireproof Limits, of said City, as defined herein. All wiring outside the Fire or Fireproof Limits shall be wired in rigid conduct, electrical metallic tube or armored cable. All public buildings shall be wired in rigid conduit or electrical mettalic tube. For the purpose of this Code, public buildings are defined as fol- lows: Multi— family buildings of more than four apartments, libraries, storage, factories, theatres, places of amusement, hotels, clubs, hos- pitals, office buildings, institutional, churches, and schools, and gar- ages of more than floor space for two cars, and any other building classed as hazardous. 5111 --B All filling stations, oil warehouses and buildings of this nature shall be wired in rigid conduit or electrical metallic tube and where ex- posed to explosive vapors or gases, shall be equipped with explosion re- sisting type fittings approved for such use. 514 —C All lead covered conductors shall have a protection of rigid conduit unless it is of parkway cable type. 514—D Refrigeration rooms shall be wired in rigid conduit or electrical metallic tube using lead covered wired and approved water tight fittings, 514-E All service switches and meters shall be marked as to the area they serve. 514—F (A) Neutral conductors may be bare when enclosed in rigid conduit, armoured cable or electridal metallic tube. (B) A bare common neutral may be employed for not more than eight 15 amp. branch circuits on a. three wire single phase system and for not more then six branch circuits on a 4 wire 3 phase system. (C) The common bare neutral conductor shall have a current carrying capacity of at least 50% of the total carrying capacity of the insulated conductors. (D) In any group of circuits having a common neutral, the same number of circuits shall as nearly as possible be connected between neutral
