AL CAROTHERS HONORARY STREET NAME SIGN CEREMONY
Mayor Pete Buttigieg will join Councilman Henry Davis Jr. (2nd District) to install an honorary
street name sign — "Al Carothers Boulevard"--to recognize Carothers at 11 am Tuesday,
September 8 at the intersection of Olive Street and Longley Avenue.
Carothers, a longtime South Bend resident, has owned Al's House of Style barbershop, 618 N.
Olive St., for 45 years. He is known for honestly and humbly offering guidance to young
people, in addition to cutting hair.
"It's a great way to honor someone who's been a positive influence on so many people," says
Mayor Pete Buttigieg. "Al continues to teach self - respect and what it means to take
responsibility and be accountable to one's family and community. We're pleased to honor him
today."
The City of South Bend's honorary street name sign program allows residents the opportunity to
honor people that have made significant contributions to the community.
