MAYOR BUTTIGIEG TO DEDICATE RIVER LIGHTS PLAZA
Mayor Pete Buttigieg will hold a ribbon - cutting event at 10 am on Friday, September 4 to
officially dedicate River Lights Plaza, just north of Seitz Park along the east bank of the St.
Joseph River.
Residents purchased customized, commemorative bricks for $150 to support the yearlong South
Bend 150 festivities. Other brick pavers and limestone squares in the plaza will recognize
corporate sponsors of South Bend 150.
Landscape architect Chris Chockley of Jones Petrie Rafinski contributed pro bono
design services to create the plaza, while the River Lights sculpture was designed by renowned
lighting designer Rob Shakespeare. River Lights was unveiled as part of South Bend's 150th
anniversary events in late May.
"The River Lights project demonstrates that South Bend has learned once again to turn and face
one of our best assets —the St. Joseph River," Mayor Buttigieg says. "River Lights Plaza will be
a permanent tribute to the generous community members who made this historic project possible
with contributions large and small."
Customized bricks are available through September 30 for a $150 donation. More information is
