Michiana Crime Stoppers Announces New Coordinator
Wednesday, September 2, 2015 9:00 a.m.
South Bend Police Training Auditorium
701 W. Sample St, South Bend
Contact: Lt. Cindy Kilgore, (574) 235 -9306, c. (574) 329 -1062
Lt. Cindy Kilgore has served as the Coordinator for Michiana Crime Stoppers, Inc. since October
2007. On October 2, 2015 Kilgore will step down as Coordinator and retiring from the South
Bend Police Department after serving as an officer for 31 years.
Patrolman First Class Kayla Miller, 32, of the South Bend Police Department will take over as
Coordinator of Michiana Crime Stoppers. Officer Miller has been with the South Bend Police
Department for 3 years. Prior to joining the Department, she served as a Wabash County
Sheriff's deputy and as an officer with the Indiana State Excise Police.
Michiana Crime Stoppers (formerly South Bend Area Crime Stoppers) was started by South
Bend Police in 1983. Because the partnership with media is so crucial in helping to promote the
program and advertise unsolved crimes, the scope of the program was determined by the
South Bend broadcasting viewing range to include 12 counties in northern Indiana and
southwestern Michigan.
Officer Miller is the fourth coordinator to take the helm; the first being Lt. Sam Walsh, 8 years,
followed by Lt. Dave Shock, 16 years, then Lt. Cindy Kilgore, 8 years, (all South Bend Police
officers). During this time, anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers have helped police solve over
9,100 felony cases, recover over $16.7 million in stolen property and narcotics, and arrest over
7,450 felony offenders.
Please join us at a media conference on Wednesday, September 2 at 9am in the South Bend
Police Training Auditorium to meet Officer Miller (enter through the west -end Sample Street
door). Joining will be South Bend Police Chief Ron Teachman and former coordinators (retired
SBPD officers) Sam Walsh and Dave Shock, as well as members of the board of directors of
Michiana Crime Stoppers, Inc.
