HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-10-15 Committee of the WholeCOMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE AUGUST 10, 2015 4:35 PM Committee Present: Karen White, Gavin Ferlic, Derek Dieter, Tim Scott, Henry Davis, Valerie Schey, Oliver Davis, Dr. David Varner, Dr. Fred Ferlic Agenda: Interview Applicants for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street Naming Committee Councilmember Karen White who serves as Chair of the Committee of the Whole convened this rarely called meeting of the committee to interview applicants for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. street renaming committee. It should be noted the special ad hoc committee was established by the Council to make recommendations for a designation to the Mayor who would ostensibly then ask the Board of Public Works which he appoints and the body with the actual authority to take action do so. The Committee was to be made up of seven members, four appointed by the Council and three by the Mayor while there was no time limit for reaching consensus, it was expected the Committee would make timely recommendations. Five citizens responded the Council's call for applicants. Each applicant was called in individually to be interviewed briefly by the full Council. Each applicant in turn, was asked why they wanted to serve on the Committee. The five applicants were Sidney Blanchet, Deborah Walker, Sam Brown, John Primmer and Sherri Richmond and were interviewed in that order. Ultimately the Council unanimously named four from the pool excluding John Primmer. The Clerk's office was to notify all applicants by mail, which would include a copy of the enabling resolution. Karen adjourned the meeting at 5:12 pm. Respectfully Submitted, Z r6t 4,4a-ez, Karen White, Chairperson Committee of the Whole
