A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING JOHN VOORDE FOR HIS DEDICATED AND
CONSCIENTIOUS SERVICE AS COUNCIL PRESIDENT DURING THE 1988

WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, recognizes that JOHN VOORDE was duly elected
President of the Council at the first official meeting in
January of 1988; and
WHEREAS, the Council notes that over the past twelve
(12) months, JOHN VOORDE has provided the leadership which
set a tone for a positive working relationship between the
new Common Council and the new City Administration; and
WHEREAS, the Council recognizes with pride that among
the many contributions made to our community in 1988, one of
the most challenging was the successful completion of the
firefighter negotiations culminating in a two -year agreement
under Council President Voorde's leadership; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council applauds Council Member
JOHN VOORDE for a job "well done" and thanks him for a year
of dedicated, diligent, and conscientious service as Council
President, and for being a caring public servant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of South
Bend, Indiana, the Common Council publicly commends and
thanks Council Member JOHN VOORDE for a job well done as
President of the Council in 1988.
SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges
Council Member JOHN VOORDE (a /k /a "Mr. Negotiator /Realtor ")
for his fine leadership abilities which helped foster a
positive atmosphere for the betterment of our entire
community.
SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force
and effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council
and approval by the Mayor.
