Given to historic theatres that demonstrate excellence in community impact, quality of programs and services, and quality of physical restoration, the award has honored such venues as Fabulous Fox in Atlanta, Playhouse Square in Cleveland, and New York City Center. "With over $25 million in renovations and restoration since 2000, including $8 million from residents' private donations, the Morris Performing Arts Center has been able to renew the spirit of this important space," says executive director Dennis Andres. "We're proud to receive this prestigious award, which reflects the commitment South Bend has shown to the preserve this historic landmark and maintain the Morris as a thriving community showcase." The concert industry's leading trade publication, Pollstar, has included the Morris among the top 100 theaters worldwide since 2000. The Morris, which opened in 1922, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and hosts concerts, national Broadway touring musicals, and is home to the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and Broadway Theatre League.
