NATIONAL EXPERT TO DISCUSS DOWNTOWN SOUTH BEND HOUSING MARKET
The City of South Bend will host a public lecture featuring Laurie Volk, a nationally recognized
analyst of demographic, market and lifestyle trends at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25 at Recital
Hall, Century Center. The lecture is free and open to the public. Complimentary parking is
available.
Volk's lecture, "Downtown Housing Market: Who will live downtown, and what are they
looking for ?" will focus on where potential renters and buyers of newly- created housing units in
downtown South Bend are likely to move from and the target audience for such housing.
She will also discuss local housing preferences rental or ownership, multi - family or single -
family and what potential residents would be willing to pay. Volk will also explore how many
new housing units could be leased or sold within the downtown area over the next five years.
Volk is principal in charge of Zimmerman/Volk Associates' market studies and the firm's
primary analyst of demographic, market and lifestyle trends. Her recent efforts have focused on
the development of analytical tools to determine market potential for mixed - income, mixed -age
repopulation and new mixed -use, pedestrian- oriented sustainable neighborhood developments.
Volk is on the Board of Directors of the Seaside Institute and the National Charrette Institute,
and formerly held the position of co -chair of the Development and Implementation task force of
the Congress for the New Urbanism. She received the 2002 -2003 Knight Fellowship in
Community Building.
