EVAN SEARS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTION
Mayor Pete Buttigieg will honor Alkeyna Aldridge and Will Connors, recipients of the 13th
annual Evan J. Sears Scholarship, at a reception on Friday, June 21 at 3:30 p.m. on the 14th floor
of County -City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd.
The award honors Evan J. Sears, an intern with the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, who was
killed in a traffic accident while working on a street project in 1999. The scholarship is open to
any student who has an internship with the City for at least a one summer. To apply interns write
an essay about workplace safety.
Aldridge, a graduate student in Ball State's urban and regional planning master's program, is an
intern with the Department of Community Investment. Connors, a senior at Notre Dame, is an
engineering intern with the Department of Public Works.
"We are honored to keep Evan's memory alive through this scholarship that recognizes hard-
working young people just like him," Mayor Buttigieg says. "This scholarship also raises
awareness about the importance of workplace safety for everyone."
