MAYOR BUTTIGIEG, AARON PERRI TO GIVE SB150 BIRTHDAY WEEKEND UPDATE
Mayor Pete Buttigieg will join Aaron Perri, Executive Director of Downtown South Bend and
Chair of the SB 150 Birthday Weekend, at a press conference at l Oam Wednesday, May 20 at
Century Center Island to discuss the upcoming celebrations of the City's sesquicentennial, May
22 -24.
The Birthday Weekend Campus is open Saturday, May 23 from loam -1 1pm; and Sunday, May
24 from l lam -6pm; with the Opening Ceremony Friday, May 22 from 9:30pm- 10:30pm.
Friday night several groups will carry the SB Flame, used during the City's recent Torch Run,
from the Colfax Bridge to Seitz Park to symbolically illuminate River Lights, the permanent,
dynamic public art display that will serve as a lasting tribute to this milestone birthday. The two
interactive light sculptures on both sides of the St. Joseph River, near the island behind Century
Center and at Seitz Park, will illuminate for the first time the cascade near the headwaters of the
East Race. Fireworks will cumulate Friday evening.
At loam on Saturday the campus opens. There is no cost to enter, and the majority of the
activities are free, including the Kids Zone at Howard Park and the Seitz and Sounds music stage
at Seitz Park. For more information on activities offered at the various zones including

Saturday's events conclude with an outdoor concert at Century Center featuring Rutabega at
5pm, Mike Taylor at 6pm, Timbre & Band at 7pm, and celebrated singer - songwriter Ben Folds
at 9pm. Folds will perform with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Tsung Yeh.
Premium seats for the show are sold out, but general admission tickets that include all four
shows are available for $10 at morriscenter.ticketforce.com.

On Sunday, May 24 the campus is open from l lam- 6pm. At l lam and Ipm, the Century Center
will host its first champagne and jazz brunch on its island. Guests will have the opportunity to
listen to jazz music over a brunch prepared by Executive Chef Marc Rossetti. This is a ticketed
event, and tickets must be purchased in advance at
showclix.com/event/ChampagneJazzBrunchlpm.
There are three main entrances:
From the North, at Seitz Park off of Colfax Avenue.
From the West, at the corner of Wayne Street and St. Joseph Street /US 31.
From the East: the corner of Wayne Street and St Louis Boulevard.
At each of the entrances non - perishable items will be collected for the Food Bank of Northern
Indiana. Items most needed are canned meat and fish, and peanut butter and grape jelly.
Also, to ensure the safety of everyone attending SB 150, all bags and containers will be searched
prior to entry and reentry into the celebration. Any and all weapons will be confiscated and will
not be returned. The City of South Bend will not be liable for the loss or destruction of any
weapon or property confiscated.
This event is expecting attendance upwards of 40,000 people. Participants are strongly
encouraged to carpool, bike, or take advantage of free public transportation. Transpo will offer
free fares on its fixed routes on Saturday as an option. They will also offer free shuttle service
