AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION ONE OF ORDINANCE NO. 2865 BEING
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHING OF A DOG POUND AND
FOR THE REGISTRATION OF DOGS,BITCHES AND OTHER ANIhIALS OF THE
CANINE SPECIES; FOR THE INOCULATION OF SUCH DOGS WITH AN APPROV-
ED AND RECOGNIZED ANTI - RABIES SERUM; PROHIBITING ALL DOGS FROI?
RUNNING AT LARGE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, UNLESS SO
INOCULATED OR T!UZZLED; PROVIDING I^_EANS FOR IDENTIFYING DOGS SO
REGISTERED AND INOCULATED; PROVIDING THAT DOGS SO INOCULATED
11AY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS RUN AT LARGE; PROVIDING THAT ANY
DOG RUNNING AT LARGE AND NOT SO INOCULATED AND PROPERLY TAGGED
OR INZZLED IIfAY BE IITPOUNDED UPON FAILURE OF THE OWNER TO REDEEM
THE SAME; AND APPROPRIATING TWENTY -FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FROH 'ME
GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND THE BOARD
OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THE SALARY OF A DOG POUND nASTER, AND FOR
THE EC,UIPP,4ENT AND OPERATION OF SAID POUND, AND PROVIDING A
PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. ADOPTED June 231 1930.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, as follows:
SECTION 1. That Section 1 of the above said ordinance, No.
TTU , passed on 23rd day of June, 1930, be amended to read
as follows:
Section 1. That it shall be the duty of every person own-
ing any Tog within the corporate limits of the City of South
Bend, Indiana, over the age of three months, and desiring to
permit said dog to ran at large, to register said animal with
the Board of Public Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana;
and it shall be the duty of the said official to record, in
a book kept for that purpose, the name and address of the
owner of said dog, a brief description of said animal and the
registration number assigned to said animal; provided that
when any dog is registered in the office of the Board of Public
Safety after said animal has been inoculated by a licensed
.veterinarian with an approved and recognized anti - rabies selu m,
and a certificate certifying to such inoculation shall be
presented to the clerk of said Board signed by such licensed
veterinarian showing that said animal has been inoculated.
The clerk of said Board of Public Safety shall furnish the owner
of such animal at the time of registration with registration
receipt, and with a metal tag bearing a serial number which
shall be attached to said animal's collar; which shall in-
dicate the registration year for which said license has been
issued. The license and registration fee shall be One Dollar
41.00) per year for each dog, Provided that the said Board
shall charge, in addition to the above sum, the sum of Twenty -
five Cents (0.25) for each duplicate metal tag issued as here -
inbefore provided.
Said metal tag shall have stamped thereon a number correspond-
ing to the registration number of the dog so licensed, as
shown on said record book. For each registration year the tag
shall be of a different shape. Said license and tag shall not
be transferable to any other animal than the one registered.
On or before the first day of January, 1934, and the first day
of January of each year thereafter, dogs within the City of
South Bend shall be licensed for the twelve months following
such date which is defined as the registration year; provided
that dogs becoming of the age of three months in any registra-
tion year or which shall be brought into the city by their
owner during any registration year shall be licensed within
thirty days after becoming three months old or Xxx$xg after
being brought into the city, which license shall be valid
until the first day of the calendar year next succeeding.
Provided further that dog licenses which would otherwise
expire the 15th day of July, 1933, are hereby extended to
the first day of January, 1934, and any license issued for
any dog not previously licensed at the time of such issue
shall be valid only until the first of the calendar year
next succeeding.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and
