July - August 2015
Dear Neighbor,
SpUT$B
EMAICE BEND
1865
Summer is winding down and now it's time to head back to school. Classes in South Bend Community Schools
begin August 18. Please remember to take extra precautions in designated school zones. All 50 states have a law
making it illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children. Also, traffic in both directions
is required to stop when students are entering or exiting a school bus. We thank all those throughout the
community who help ensure the safety of the children in our community, and look forward to a smooth
transition back to school.
Before focus shifts to back -to- school activities and all that fall offers, I encourage you take advantage of the
fun summer events around South Bend. Attendance at Four Winds Field at Stanley Coveleski Regional
Stadium continues to climb. It's been a record - shattering first half of the 2015 season. We're thrilled that the
fan base has been able to grow this year. It's a great place to spend a night out with family and friends.
Also, mark your calendars for Art Beat 2015, on Saturday, August 29 from noon -8 pm. It's a showcase of over
200 visual, performing, and culinary artists from South Bend and the surrounding region. Residents are
encouraged to stroll downtown streets during this free, family - friendly event.
South Bend Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with Visit South Bend Mishawaka, is honored to host the
International Softball Congress' 69th annual ISC World Tournament August 8 -15 at the Belleville Softball
Complex. We eagerly look forward to welcoming teams from around the world to our community. A weekly
pass is $50 and daily pass is $10. Children under age 12 are free. For more information visit sbpark.org.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you around the City in the weeks to
come.
Sincerely,
Mayor Pete Buttigieg
