Water Works -Decommission Utilities in Ignition Park South
Water Works has provided a cost to decommission their water and sanitary and storm sewer
lines at Indiana Avenue, in Ignition Park South. The actual lines will then be removed as part
of the removal of the streets, sidewalks, and curbs.
This is part of the larger effort to vacate the streets and alleys and relocate utilities in the area
bounded by Indiana / Scott/ Norfolk Southern RR tracks/ and Kemble, to make this a
developable site next to Ignition Park.
Once this work is completed, Water Works can release their easements. The cost is $10,000.
There are three fire hydrants along the north side of Indiana within this area, which will remain
in place and are therefore not included. By keeping these hydrants in place, the water lines
feeding them could be tapped for future development.
Staff requests approval of the Water Works proposal in the amount of $10,000.

Ignition Park South Water
The original cost estimates did not change but the scope of our work is different. Here is an adjusted total for killing the
water mains and fire hydrants on Catalpa, Chapin, and Kendall Streets between Indiana Avenue and the railroad tracks.
Also included is the cost for new fire hydrants on the same streets just south of Indiana.
Excavate and cap 6" water mains using 6" line stops
Excavate and cap 6" water mains using existing valves
Install new fire hydrants south of Indiana Avenue

The existing water main, services, and fire hydrants should be removed by the contractor doing the other line removal.
The water main has salvage value to us. The old fire hydrants are useful for spare parts. We can arrange with the
contractor to pick up the old hydrants. How soon does our work need to be completed? Please let me know. Thanks
