AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING THE SMI OF THREE HUNDRED ELEVEN
DOLLARS FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND TO ACCOUNT H -14 -A, THE SAME
BEING THE ACCOUNT FOR REPAIRS OF
BUILDINGS* STRUCTURES UNDER
THE BOARD OF PUBLIC
WORKS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South
Bend, Indiana;
SECTION I - That the sum of One Hundred Seventy -Five Dollars,
($175.00) be and the same is hereby appropriated from the
General Fund of the City of South Bend to account H -14 -A,
being the account for repairs of buildings and structures
under the Board of Public Works. This appropriation is
understood to be for expense of plumbing and repairs to the
tower on the City Hall, recently damaged by heavy rains.
SECTION II - That the sum of One Hundred Thirty Six Dollars,
($136.00) be appropriated from the General Fund of the City
of South Bend to account H -14 -A, being the account for re-
pairs of buildings and structures under the Board of Public
Works. It is understood that this amount is to cover the
cost of rental of four (4) months of shoring under the
Colfax Avenue Bridge.
SECTION III - It appearing to this Council that heretofore
on or about the 15th day of March , 19360 the
following conditions existed with reference to certain
property under the jurisdiction of the City of South Bend,
and the emergency having been presented to the members of
the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, showing

among other things that the Colfax Bridge of the City of
South Bend showed signs of giving away and a serious danger
to the public welfare of South Bend existing said Board
made arrangements with Ralph Sollitt & Sons for the rental
of shoring material to brace the bridge until it could be
repaired and said indebtedness having to be incurred

immediately forean appropriation to be asks&, and the funds
having been exhausted in the proper account for said purpose
the members of this Council do expressly by this ordinance
approve the declaration of an emergency and the ordering of the
supplies from said Ralph Sollitt & Sons in the sum of One
Hundred Thirty -Six Dollars, ($136900), which was needed for
the proper maintenance of said bridge, and this Council
does further approve the action of said Board of Public
Works in August, 1936, in recognizing the emergency that
existed in the City Hall, when a heavy rain caused con-
siderable damage to the cornice and gutters on the City Hall
roof due to deterioration and rust, and which resulted in rain
pouring into the building, thus creating a serious emergency,
and this Council does approve and ratify the acts of said
Board in employing a plumber and a sheet metal worker, to-
wit: W. J. Braunsdorf & Son and J. C. Lauber at a total
expenditure of One Hundred Seventy -Five Dollars, ($175.00)
to repair said condition, there being insufficient time to
ask for appropriation for said work to be done and said
indebtedness being created strictly by an emergency.
SECTION IV - This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, legalpublication, public
hearing, signature by the Mayor and approval by the State
