Engineer(formerly Clerk) .... 1300 to 1800 Building Inspector ......... ............................... -- 12-G& \ S o 0 Clinic Nurse .............. ............................... 1300 to 1400 Clinic Inspector ........... ............................... 1300 to 1400 Your committee has taken into consideration the increasing cost of living; the necessity of maintaining loyalty; providing proper compensation for intelligence' training, and skill; as well as realizing that none of these City employees are in line to receive any pension or unemployment insurance or Federal Old Age benefits such as are payable by industries and /or the Police and Fire Department to their employees. Although the cost of living is rapidly approaching that of 1931, yet it is impossible in vied of the lack of full economic recovery to more fully restore previous pay -cuts. It will be noted that in a number of instances' one em.loyee is now perform- ing the duties previously handled by t,:ro or more employees. ',7e recommend that no additional compensation be allowed other than by salaries under this ordinance to any of the above employees and /or officers, but that reimbursement for transportation be made, or transportation be furnished un- der proper restrictions where necessary in the proper performance of their duties to the City of South Bend.
