AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE #30�9 ESTABLISHING COUNCILMANIC
DISTRICTS IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND BIT DIVIDING SAID CITY INTO
SIR SUCH COUNCILMANIC DISTRICTS, AND FIXING THEIR BOUNDARIES,
AND PROVIDING FOR THE USE OF VOTING MACHINES IN ELECTIONS FOR
NOMINATING AND ELECTING OFFICERS OF SAID CITY, AND REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana:
SECTION I -That councilmanic districts are hereby established in
the City of South Bend, Indiana, and all the territory within the
'City of South Bend is hereby divided into six such councilmanic
districts, numbered First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth.,
and the boundaries of each of such districts shall be as follows,
to -wit:
SECTION II -- The First District shall be bounded as follows: Begim -
ing at the intersection of the center line of East Colfax Avenue and
center of the St, Joseph River; thence west along the center of
Colfax Avenue to the center of North Lafayette Boulevard; the north-
ward to the center of LaSalle Avenue, then westerly to the intersec-
tion of Lincoln Way West; thence northwesterly along the center of
Lincoln Way West to the center of South Bendix Drive; thence north
along the center of North Bendix Drive to the city limits; thence east
along said city limits to the center of Eclipse Place; thence north
along the center of said Eclipse Place to the center of Bergan Street;
thence east along the center of Bergan Street to the center of Meade
Street; thence north along the center of Meade Street projected (said
projected lip_e being a western city limits line) to the northerly city
limits; thence east along the northerly limits and the center line df
said St. Joseph River; thence southerly and easterly along the center
of said river to the place of beginning.
SECTION III - The Second District shall be bounded as follows: Beginn-
ing at the intersection of the center line of Western Avenue with
South Lafayette Boulevard; thgnne north to the center line of LaSalle
Avenue, then westerly to the center intersection of Lincoln Way West;
thence northwesterly to the center line of North Bendix Drive; thence
north along the center line of North Bendix Drive to the northern city
limits; thence west along said northerly limits to the westerly limits
lime; thence south along the westerly limits of the City of South Berl
to the intersection of such westerly limits with the center line of
the New York Central Railroad right of way; thence southeasterly along
the center line of the New York Central right of way to the intersec-
tion of said right of way with the center of Walnut Street; thence
easterly along the center of Western Avenue to the center of So -)th
Lafayette Boulevard to the place of beginning.
SECTION IV - The Third District shall be bounded as follows: Beginn-
ing at the intersection of the center line of Logan Street with the
center of the St, Joseph River and running north along the center of
Logan Street to the center of Jefferson Boulevard; thence west along
the center of Jefferson Boulevard to the center of Eddy Street; thence
south along the center of Eddy Street to the intersection of Eddy Street
with the center of St. Joseph River; thencev4- Bsterly along the center
of East and West Sample St -reet to the center of South Lafayette Boule-
vard; thence south to the center of West Broadway; thence east along
west and east Broadway to the center of intersection of East Broadway
and South High Street; thence So-th along the center of South High
Street to-the center of East Broadway; thence ea.st on East Broadway
to the center line of South Miami Street; thence north on South
Miami Street to the center of East Broadway; thence east on East Broad-
way to the center line of South Marine Street; extended; thence north -
easterly along said center line to center of St. Joseph River; thence
in a northeastern and southeautern direction along the center of said
river to the place of beginning,
SECTIOU V -• The Fourth District shall be bounded as follows: Beginn-
ing at the intersection of the St. Joseph River and the northerly*
limits of the City of South Bend; thence running southerly and
easterly -long the center of the St. Joseph River to the intersec-
tion of the center of East Colfax_ Avenue; thence west along the
center of Colfax Avenue to the center of Lafayette Boulevard; thence
south along the center of Lafayette Boulevard to the center of East
Sample Street; thence east along the center of East and West Sample
Street to the center of the St. Joseph River and northerly to the
center of South Eddy Street; thence north along the center of said
South Eddy Street to the center of East Jefferson Boulevard where
said East Jefferson Boulevard intersects South Eddy Street; thence
easterly and southeasterly along the said Jefferson Boulevard to
the center of Logan Street; thence north along the center of Logan
Street to the intersection of the Northerly limits of said city;
thence rest along the northerly limits end thereafter following the
course of the northerly limits mainly in a northerly and westerly
direction to the intersection of s aid northerly limits with the
center of the St. Joseph River being the place of beginning.
SECTION VI - The Fifth District shall be bounded as follows: Begin n-
inro at t he intersection of the center of the St, Joseph River and
the center of Ironwood Drive; thence south along the center of Iron-
wood Drive to the intersection of the southerly limits of the city;
thence west along the southerly limits and thereafter following the
course of the southerly lii;,its mainly in a, southerly, westerly and
northerly direction to the intersection of the said southerly limits
with theeenter of South Lafayette Boulevard; thence north along the
center line of South Lafayette Bouleve..rd to the center of West Broad-
way; thence east along west and East Broadway to the center of in-
tersection of last Broadway and South High Street; thence South along
the center of South High Street to the center of East Broadway;
thence east on East Broadway to the center line of South Miami Street;
thence north on South Miami Street to the center of East Broadway;
thence esst on East Broadway to the center line of South Marine
Street; extended; thence northeasterly along said center line H
to center of St. Joseph River; thence easterly to the center of
the river at Ironwood Drive the place of the beginning.
SECTION VII — The Sixth District shall be bounded as follows:
Beginning at the intersection of the westerly limits of the City
of South Bend with the center of the New York Central Railroad
right of way; thence running easterly and southerly along the cent-
er of said right of way to the intersection of said right of way
of Walnut Street at Western Avenue; thence easterly along the cent-
er of Western Avenue to the intersection of South Lafayette Bou.le-
verd with the center of Western Avenue; thence southerly along the
center of said South Lafayette Boulevard to the southerly limits of
the said city at Farnema.n Street; thence west along said southerly
limits and thereafter following a course mainly north and west
along said soutIBrly limits to the intersection of said southerly
limits with the westerly limits of said city; thence north along
said westerly limits to the place of beginning.
SECTION VIII — That hereafter, in any primary election, or election
held in said city for the nomination or election of candidates or
officers for city offices, voting machines, es heretofore have been
or hereafter may be provided by the Board of County Commissioners
of St. Joseph County, Indiana., shall be used,
SECTION IX — That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION X — That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passageo
