HomeMy WebLinkAboutDefining and Prohibiting Disorderly and Offensive Consuct in the Streets and Public PlacesORDINANCE NO., Passed by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Approved and signed by 193 Clerk of Common Council Clerk F4 ORDINANCE NO. 3243 as amended AN ORDINANCE DEFINING AND PROHIBITING DISORDERLY AND OFFENSIVE CON- DUCT IN THE STREETS AND PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND AND PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFORE AND FIXING A TIME FOR SAME TO TAKE EFFECT. SECTION I — BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City- of South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana, that whoever utters an op- probious or vile epithet involving moral turpitude not profaning God, Jesus Christ, or the Holy Ghost in the presence of anyone, or whoever uses vile or indecent language or makes any noise, disorder or tumult disturbing public peace or the quietude of any of the inhabitants of South Bend on public streets of said city or in public places within said South Bend, St. Joseph County, State of Indiana, shall be fired in any sum not exceeding One Hundred Dollars (4100.00) to which may be added imprisonment not exceeding thirty (30) days. SECTION II — BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, that whoever accosts, approaches or signals to any person of the opposite sex unknown to such person end by word or sign or gesture attempts to speak to or become acquainted with said person against his or her will on public street or plablic place or in any place in said city, except in the transaction of legitimate business, or whoever attempts to entice or procure a person of the opposite sex to commit an unlawful act, or whoever accosts or approaches or signals any person, and by word, sign or gesture suggests or invites any person to any building, vehicle, conveyance or premises, except in the transaction of legitimate business shall be guilty of offending persons on the street or a public place or elsewhere in the City of South Bend, and upon conviction shall be fined in any sum not exceed- ing One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) to rhi.ch may be added imprisonment not exceeding thirty (30) days.
