HomeMy WebLinkAboutRelating to and Regulating the Business or Occupation of Barbering and the Conduct of the Barber ShopsORDINANCE An Ordinance relating to and regulating the business or ocou pation 6f barbering and the conduct of the barber $hope in the City of South Bend, Indiana; perscribing the rules and regulations.for conduct of the same; and providing penalties fox' the violation hereof Br iy ordainded by the Council of the City of South Bend, State of Indiana : - Section ;: No barber who is afflioteds or who shall hereafter become afflioted 'with 'any infectious, contagibus or communicable disease, shall' "be permitted`to work in any barber shops or follovi.the barber business or occupation in the City of South Bend,, Indiana. Section 2._.'It shall` be uhlaWful `for any pe rson, firm or corp- oration 606rating a oarber shop or plebe where paroering is done-An South Bend, Indiana, to-have in its employ any ceraon afflicted :vith any infectious, Contagious or comriunicabl'e disease,'unless aaid person is willing to place himself under proper medical care or treatment. In order to determine who is free from infectious and commUnic- agile disease, a ch caroer shall suomit to a yearly physical examin sti:on, o said examination td'be done by a registered op praet7.cl.ion oner of edioiRe in St. Joseph County. 3. MAINTENAJCE. The floors, ceil "ing, side walls, turn iture and fixttires must be kept free from all unsiEhbly and unsaxaitary dust -arid grime.- Hot and cold running water from the public water system in such quantities as are necessary to conduct business in said barber "$hop'muet be provided," All waste water, lavatories, bo❑:modesy or other drains must be connected to the City sewer. Section 4:" A clean, fresh Isundered towel or neck strip must be furnished to each separate patron. Section 5. It shall be unlawful for any persons persons, firm or corporation to operate, amintain or conduct any barber sho", or any plead :herein barbering is done,'is the City of South Bend, Indiana, to be open for the business of batbering for revenue, pay, free or otherwise, before eight'o'olook'A.M., and after sik o'clock Y,K. on 6s following days; to ;wIt -; Vonday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; and Friday of each and every week; on Saturday of each and every week, and on all days, (except Sunday) previous to the followinp; Holidas, wit: New Years Day, Decoration Day, Forth-of July, Labbr day,-Thanks- giving Day, and Christmas, they shall net open earlier than eight o'clock A.M. and close not later than eight ocloek P.k. Section 6.- Barber shops shall and the following 8biidays, to -wit: Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and L remain entirely closed on Sundays New Yeats Day.'Deeoratien Day, Christmas Day. I I Section 7. It shall be unlawful for any person, persons, or firm or Corporation to operate, conduct or maintain a barber shop or any place wherein barbering is done for revenue, pay, free or otherwise, to pgovent a free and unobstructed view from the outside such barber shop by the use of blinds, shades, screens, painted or frosted glass, or any ether device. Section 8. Any person, persons, firm or corporation who Vio- lates any -of the provisions of this Drdinance shall be-guilty -of a " misdemeanor and upon conviction "thereofi shall be fined'for the first offense not less than ter. dollars ($10.00) and cost of prosecution, and fdr the second offense, not less than twenty- -five (425.00) and the cost of "proeecutiont &hd each day of the violation of said Ordinance shall oonsittute a seppr�zte offense. Section V.— If any section or j:art of this Grdinance shall be held for any reason, invalid, the same shall not-be'consteued to effect -ally 6f-the valid portion or portions 'thersof,'but all such valid portions shall remain in full force and efi'ect.
