Bill 15 -13 Concern over Assessments
The Personnel & Finance Committee met to consider a resolution expressing concern over the property
tax assessment process. Henry Davis initiated the resolution because he said other Councilmembers
had received complaints about assessments particularly those in the downtown area. Henry feels as
though assessments are too often higher than market values which has the effect of stifling
development due to inflated tax burdens. He as well as others asked the City Clerk's office to request
the assessor to appear before the Personnel and Finance Committee to explain the process.
Unfortunately the Assessor did not show. Henry asked for a continuation until the invitation to appear
was again formally sent and a date was agreed upon. The Council Attorney would draft and send the
letter.
So bill 15 -13 was continued after motions by Valerie Schey and Derek Dieter which were affirmed by all.
Chairperson Karen White announced that the Controller would present the first quarterly report on June
22nd. She also noted the Mayor's 2016 budget kickoff was scheduled for May 28`^.
Karen adjourned the meeting at 3:54 p.m.
