Agenda: Update on the Curb & Sidewalk Program
Valerie Schey, Chair of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee called the meeting to order o
hear an update on the city's curb and sidewalk program from the Director of Public Works, Eric Horvath.
Valerie has been a vocal proponent for an expanded curb and sidewalk program. She has insisted such a
program be a long -term consistent commitment as well as one that be equitable among all sectors of
the city.
Eric Horvath spoke about the three prong program the city is undertaking in 2015. Among the newly
inaugurated approach was an emphasis on areas around schools. Also a no cost component for
homeowners unable to pay for sidewalk replacement though it has become a safety hazard. Finally an
expanded reimbursement plan with a more resident homeowner split with the city of the replacement
costs. Eric also allowed to a less than forthcoming response from some Councilmembers when he asked
them to list the curbs and sidewalk areas needing the most work.
After Eric's presentation, Valerie again stated the need for district equity.
Valerie Schey adjourned the meeting at 4:54 p.m.
