HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/27/2015 Board of Public Safety Special MeetingSPECIAL MEETING FEBRUARY 27 2015 21 The Board of Public Safety met in the Executive Session on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. The meeting was held in the Board Conference Room, Ste. 1308, County City Building, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana forthe purposes specified in I.C. 5- 14- 1.5- 6.1(b)(6)(A). Board Members Eddie Miller, John Collins, Luther Taylor, and Daniel Jones were present. Board President Laura Vasquez was absent. Also present was Attorney Tasha Outlaw. Linda Martin, Clerk of the Board was absent. Members did not discuss any subject matter other than the subject matter as specified in the Public Notice. Mart n, Cle k SPECIAL MEETING FEBRUARY 27 2015 The Board of Public Safety met in a Special Meeting at 8:10 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 with Board Members Eddie Miller, John Collins, Luther Taylor, and Daniel Jones present. Board President Laura Vasquez was absent. Also present was Attorney Tasha Outlaw. The meeting was held in the Board Conference Room, Ste. 1308, County City Building, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana. POLICE DEPARTMENT ENTER FINDINGS OF FACT — JACK STILP Mr. Collins stated on February 9, 2015; the Board held a hearing of Disciplinary Charges against Officer Jack Stilp and is now presenting the Findings of Facts. Mr. Collins read the Findings of Fact and stated that the Board finds Cor his actions, Patrolman Stilp receive a letter of discipline to be placed in his personnel record for his violation of the Duty Manual. PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR Officer Jack Stilp apologized to the Board for his actions and the tax payers for the money used to pay for this and stated he takes full responsibility for his actions. He stated he is a humble and feeling individual and made the decisions he made on that day because he felt sorry for this woman. He noted it's a loughjob and sometimes mistakes are made. He explained when making decisions on the job you have to look at the intent of the individual and determine if it is to defraud. He explained his intentions were only to protect her. Officer Stilp noted the warrant was vacated, the children didn't miss out on their mother, and the gentleman is still getting child support, so there really is no victim in this except himself and his family. He noted the last thirteen months have been difficult on him and his family not knowing if he would still have ajob with the Police Department. Officer Stilp stated he hopes to have a long career with the City and going forward he stated he will be nothing but SPECIAL MEETING FEBRUARY 27.2015 22 professional. IIe thanked the Board and stated he appreciated everybody's time and their decision.
