A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL, THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH OF
SOUTH BEND, A CITY WHICH WAS INCORPORATED IN 1865 AND WHICH IS
LOCATED IN THE COUNTY OF ST. JOSEPH AND IS FORMERLY CLASSIFIED
BY INDIANA STATE LAW AS A SECOND CLASS CITY, HEREBY WISHES,
DESIRES, COMMENDS AND CONGRATULATES IRENE K. GAMMON
FOR HER TWENTY -FOUR YEARS OF SERVICE AS CITY CLERK OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND WHO PURSUANT TO INDIANA CODE § 36 -4 -6 -9 IS THE
CLERK OF THE LEGISLATIVE BODY WHO WAS ELECTED SIX CONSECUTIVE
TIMES PURSUANT TO INDIANA CODE § 36- 4-10 -2 BY THE VOTERS OF THIS
CITY TO SERVE IN SUCH PUBLIC CAPACITY AND WHO HAS SERVED
COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS AND PURSUANT TO
INDIANA CODE § 36- 4-10 -4 MAINTAINED ALL RECORDS REQUIRED BY LAW,
KEPT THE CITY SEAL, AND PERFORMED OTHER DUTIES PRESCRIBED BY
LAW DURING HER CAREER AS CITY CLERK.
Vbtrttlg, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that in
1971, one Irene Kathleen Gammon ran for public office for the first time; and
'D btrtsg, the Council recognizes that Irene K. Gammon won six (6) consecutive
elections for the office of City Clerk of the City of South Bend, Indiana and is completing
her twenty- fourth year in that position; and
VbtrtO.8, as of December 31, 1995, Irene K. Gammon will complete forty-seven
(47) years of public service to the City of South Bend and St. Joseph County; and
'DIllijtrt40, since 1972, Irene K. Gammon has been a memeber of the International
Institute of Municipal Clerks and received the internationally recognized status of "Certified
Municipal Clerk" in 1979; and
'Il btrt8g, the Common Council further acknowledges that Irene K. Gammon has
been a delegate to every Democratic State Convention since 1956, has served on countless
numbers of civic and governmental organizations as well as the Altrusa International, Inc.,
and other civic minded clubs and organizations during her long public service career.

�Sttti0tt I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
the Common Council hereby publicly commends and congratulates Irene Kathleen
Gammon for her twenty -four (24) years of service as the City Clerk of our fine City.
�Sttti= II. Beginning her career on January 1, 1949 at the age of 19 in the
County Treasurer's Office, and then serving as a bookkeeper in the County Auditor's
Office, Irene K. Gammon then left service in the County to begin her long carrer as City
Clerk, having served the citizens of South Bend with four Mayors, namely: Jerry J.
Miller, Peter J. Nemeth, Roger O. Parent, and Joseph E. Keman.
Ottti0tt III. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, thanks
Irene K. Gammon for her years of service and sincerely hopes that "Mom" Gammon will
continue to be active
