STIVER FOR HER SEVENTEEN (17) YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS. '1 btrtBS, the South Bend Common Council is proud to acknowledges that Gwen E. Stiver began her seventeen (17) years of dedicated public service on the South Bend Board of Park Commissioners in 1979; and 915trVIS, the dedicated spirit of caring and giving to others which Gwen E. Stiver is so well known for at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church and which she enthusiastically shared over her long and distinguished tenure on the Board of Park Commissioners; and 'llVntrtBS, under the guidance of Gwen E. Stiver, and especially in the many years in which she served as President of the South Bend Board of Park Commissioners, Gwen E. Stiver helped guide and influence the construction of many Park and Recreation projects, some of which include the East Race Waterway; the Stanley Coveleski Regional Baseball Stadium; the soon to be open Belleville Softball Complex; the numerous expansions to the Potowatomi Zoo, the development of the Riverwalk system with the extension of the riverwalk to Twyckenham Bridge, the construction of the East Bank Trail, the construction of the Rum Village Annex Mountain Bicycle Trail development, and countless other projects and program activities; and Vhtr3t8g, under Gwen E. Stiver's leadership, a successful merger of the Recreation Commission and the Park Department was able to take place in order to create the current Parks and Recreation Department which oversees seventy -one (71) public parks and playgrounds encompassing over 1,343 acres dedicated to park and recreation activities; and MWIC4U, Gwen E. Stiver's selfless dedication and commitment to promoting our entire park system, of enhancing activities along the St. Joseph River, of developing and improving the forty -seven (47) baseball diamonds, the twenty -five (25) softball diamonds, the two (2) ice rinks, the three (3) recreation centers, and of promoting the many other park and recreation activities, have brought smiles and fond memories to thousands of individuals of all ages over the past seventeen (17) years in which Gwen E. Sliver has provided her kind spirit and helpful insights to the citizens of South Bend, Indiana. On behalf of all the the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends GWEN E. STIVER for her seventeen (17) years of dedicated and conscientious service to all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, and in particular to the Board of Park Commissioners. Section II. The Common Council is indeed grateful to GWEN E. STIVER for contributing positively to our community through her years of service and by being an avid supporter and user of our park system and especially our municipal golf courses. Section IH. The South Bend Common Council wishes GWEN E. STIVER years of continued happiness, and the satisfaction of knowing that because of her efforts and her many contributions over the past seventeen years, that the City of South Bend's park and recreation system is one of the forest in the nation. Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.
