Introduction:
Pursuant to § 2 -10 (i) of the South Bend Municipal Code, I am filing this Annual Report of the PARC
Committee, which highlights some of the activities of this calendar year. The Committee oversees activities
of the Century Center, the Morris, Potawatomi Zoo, and the many other recreational activities offered by
the Parks Department. As Chairperson, I attempted to attend as many of the Park Board of Commissioner
meetings as I could so that I had a good understanding of some of the day -to -day operations of the many
activities offered in our city.
This year's Committee members included:
LuElla Webster, Citizen Member Derek Dieter,Vice- Chairperson
Larry Clifford, Citizen Member Henry Davis, Jr., Member
Tim Scott, Member
and myself as Chairperson.
We had eleven (11) meetings this year, with some of the topics discussed and reviewed being:
• Discussion of the five (5) year Park Plan governing the City's 57 parks and many other Park
activities
• Discussion and favorable recommendation for the Energy Savings Contract for the Century Center
with Ameresco
• Ash tree policies
• Potential park bond
In the new year, continued discussions on funding mechanism will be taking place with the Park Board and
the City Administration to further enhance and maintain our City's excellent park and recreation programs.
