WHEREAS, the hazards of increasing vehicular
traffic upon the streets of South Bend endanger the safety
of school children at and near th.e public and parochial
schools of South Bend, and
WHEREAS, it is necessary in the protection of the
safety of school children that vehicular traffic at and
near the public and parochial schools of South Bend be
more adequately controlled,
NOW'THEREFO.RE, be it ordained by the Common Council
of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that;
1.. A special police auxiliary school patrol of
thirty -two (32) persons be and it hereby is created and
authorized, the, members thereof to be appointed as now pro-
vided by law.
2. The salary of such said special police auxil-
iary school patrol shall be at the rate of Fifty Dollars
($50.00) per person per month.
3. The following monies are hereby transferred
from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
and are appropriated to the uses and purposes of the
following budgetary items in the budget of the City of
South Bend, Indiana, for the year 1947, to -wit; To F -11,
Salaries and Wages, Police Department, '34,800.00; to
:
F -341, police Uniforms, police Department, A3,200.00,
which funds are required for, the proper operation and
function of the aforementioned department and an emer-
gency is declared to exist concerning the foregoing
transfers and appropriations.
4. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council,
its approval by the Tiiayor, and the fulfillment of all
statutory requirements relating to emergency appropriations.
