AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE
N0. 3359 TO PROVIDE FOR THE RATE OF FARES
FOR TAXICABS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, that Section 1 of Ordinance No. 3359 of the Ordinances
of the City of South Bend, Indiana, be amended to read as
follows, ceasing to read as originally written:
Section 1. RATE OF FARE
No person, firm or corporation owning, operating or
controlling any motor vehicle used as a taxicab within the limits
of the City of South Bend shall charge less than the following
rates to be determined by the taximeter:
For the first one -half mile or fraction
thereof 2¢
For each succeeding quarter mile thereafter
Nor more than the 951lowing rates to be determined by
the taximeter:
For the first one -half mile or fraction
thereof 350
For each succeeding fifth mile or fraction
thereof 50
Provided, however, that a taxicab may be hired at the rate of
Three ($3.00)_ Dollars per hour when so hired for driving within
the City of South Bend, before the trip is begun =and, provided,
further that for each four minutes of waiting time there may be
a charge of twenty cents (20¢). Waiting time shall include the
time when the taxicab is not in motion, beginning at its arrival
at the place to which it has been called, or the time consumed
while standing at the direction of the passenger, but no charge
shall be made for time lost because of the inefficiency of the
taxicab or its operator, or for time consumed by premature re-
sponse to call. The above charges shall be for one or more pers

meter does not accurately register the fare for any reason.
Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage by the Common Council and its approval by
the Mayor and legal publication, and, upon taking effect, all
ordinances and parts of ordinances that are in conflict with then
amendments are hereby repealed.
