Dear Neighbor,
BEND
With summer now well underway, the long, hard winter seems a far away as we enjoy all the outdoor activities the City
has to offer:
• Kennedy Water Playground is open daily. Hours are Monday - Saturday 11 am -5 pm and Sunday 12 -5 pm.
• Potawatomi Pool, open from 12 -6 pm daily, offers aqua aerobics weekdays.
• The East Race Waterway is open for rafting and kayaking on weekends, 12 -5 pm Saturday and 12:30 -4:30 pm
Sundays. The East Race also offers a climbing wall.
* South Bend Parks and Recreation also presents two free Sunday concert series —the East Race /Seitz Park Concert
Series from 5 -8 pm through August 24, and the Potawatomi Park Concert Series from 7 -8 pm, also through August 24.
* Fridays by the Fountain helps kick off the weekends with a free concert from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm every Friday
through August 29 at the Jon R. Hunt Plaza in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center. Food is available from
vendors including the Morris Bistro.
Helping to make sure all of South Bend's kids eat a healthy meal at least once a day, a free summer meal program runs
through August 8. The program is a joint effort by the South Bend Community School Corporation, South Bend Parks
and Recreation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Children ages 1 to 18 are eligible. For a list of program sites
and times, visit https: / /wwwedline .net/pages /SouthBendCSC.
The sixth annual South Bend Community Olympics for residents 50 years and older will be held August 9 -19 at the
Howard Park Recreation Center. Events include 5K and 1 -mile walk and run, horseshoes, softball, billiards, bowling,
and more.
The City also reminds residents that we're in the final stages of a mandatory water meter exchange program. Attempts
are ongoing to contact residents who still need to have their meters replaced. To avoid possible interruption of water
service, please do not delay.
To schedule your meter exchange, to find out about City - sponsored concerts, meals for kids and recreational
opportunities, or any other City services, please call the City of South Bend's customer - service line 311.
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July and a wonderful summer around the Bend.
Sincerely,
/IV__
Deputy Mayor Mark Neal
