A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
PUBLICLY COMMENDING THE MANY JOURNALISTS FROM THE Cliut/ �6eind P9w" FOR
EARNING AWARDS AND HONORS FROM THE INDIANA CHAPTER OF THE
SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS FOR JOURNALISM EXCELLENCE
WL,eireaa, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana notes that the Society of
Professional Journalists was founded in 1909 and is the nation's largest not - for - profit journalism
organization with over 13,500 journalists who "believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of
justice and the foundation of democracy" ; and
Oft mat, the Society of Professional Journalists believe that the duty of the journalist is to seek
truth and provide a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues, while serving the public with
thoroughness, honesty and professional integrity; and
Wteeweaa, the South Bend Common Council proudly recognizes the following journalists from
the QRLd P& Ad 9x1uiw who earned eight (8) 1St place awards, three (3) 2ad place awards and two (2)
3`d place awards for their work in the "2004 Best in Indiana Journalism" by the Indiana Chapter of the
Society of Professional Journalists held on April 29, 2005, namely:

the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana, for being recognized as one of the most honored
newspapers at the 25d' Annual Awards Banquet of the Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional
Journalists for journalism excellence held on April 29, 2005, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
