United State Department of Justice to moderate tonight's Community
Conversation. The meeting will be held tonight at Greater Friendship Missionary
Baptist Church located at 206 South Falcon Street at 7pm on Thursday, October
23, 2014.Your input is greatly needed, please come out and join us for this
worthwhile conversation.
Public safety is an important issue that requires our immediate attention. Safety is not
only an area of concern for the city of South Bend but for our great country we call
America. Over the past few weeks the topic of implementing a Citizens Review Board in
the City of South Bend has taken center stage. During the Community Conversations
there have been a very progressive dialogue centered on the opportunities and
challenges of creating a Citizens Review Board. Residents shared concerns about how
this Board will have a serious voice in the discourse about safety in our city. In our last
Community Conversation we had the privilege of hearing firsthand from Mr. Tom Steven
who was recently involved in an incident with a South Bend Police Officer.

weigh in on issues that matter to them the most We must change the way we do
business because currently we have an opportunity to strengthen trust between the
residents and the public safety officers,"

If the community decides that a Citizens Review Board is not the right direction to go at
this time it is important to keep the dialogue ongoing about citizen input on issues that
are important to all residents. Also special invitations have been sent to South Bend
Mayor's Office, to members of the Health and Public Safety Committee of the South
Bend Common Council, Indiana's ACLU, South Bend's branch of NAACP, and the
Department of Justice. Your involvement is important and together we can make the
difference.
