AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE COMMON
COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2015
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Common Council is required pursuant to Indiana Code § 36- 4- 7 -2(b) to fix the annual
compensation of elected city officers. Paragraph (c) of that state law provides that:
"The compensation of an elected city officer may not be changed in
the year for which it is fixed nor may it be reduced below the amount
fixed for the previous year ".
This ordinance proposes a two percent maximum increase for 2015 for the nine - member Common
Council.

Section I. The maximum salaries for the members of the South Bend Common Council
for 2015 shall be established as follows:

Re: 2015 Salary Ordinance for the South Bend Common Council
Dear Council Members:
I am introducing the attached ordinance which would establish the
maximum salaries for members of the Common Council for calendar year
2015.
The proposed salary increase, as briefly discussed at the Personnel and
Finance Committee held earlier this week, would be $358 and would
represent a two percent increase over our current salary amount.
I look forward to discussing this with you further before final action is taken
at the October 13, 2014 Common Council meeting. Thank you.
