AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE CITY CLERK
FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2015
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The City Clerk serves as Clerk of the Common Council under Indiana Code § 36-
4-6-9 and maintains custody of its records. The City Clerk is also charged with maintaining
all records as required by law; keeping the city seal; administering oaths; taking
depositions; attending all regular and special meetings of the Council; and performing
many other duties as required by the Common Council.
The Common Council is required by under Indiana Code § 36 -4 -7 -2 to fix the
annual compensation of all elected city officers. Indiana Code § 36- 4 -11 -4 also authorizes
the City Clerk to appoint "the number of deputies and employees authorized by the city
legislative body ". The City Clerk currently oversees a staff of four (4) which includes the
Ordinance Violations Bureau.

Section I. The annual compensation for the City Clerk of the city-of South Bend,
Indiana, for calendar year 2015 shall be and hereby is establish 58,300.
Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force an Zfect rLom and er its passage

Re: Proposed 2015 Salary Ordinance for the City Clerk
Dear Council Members:
On September 15, 2014, I presented the proposed 2015 budget for the Office of the
City Clerk to the Personnel and Finance Committee. At that time, I noted that I
included a two percent increase for the City Clerk.
At that time ,I also indicated that I was requesting this same percentage increase
for the Chief Deputy, the Ordinance Violations Clerk and Secretary. An additional
increase for the Deputy City Clerk which was submitted last year, and not approved,
is again being submitted this year. The four (4) staff positions will be addressed in
the non - bargaining salary ordinance for next year.
Your favorable action on this ordinance, as well as on the four (4) employee staff
positions to be addressed in the non - bargaining salary ordinance is respectfully
requested. Thank you
