An Ordinance Providing for the Annexation of Certain Territory
to the City of South Bend, Indiana,
Be it Ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana:
Section 1. That the following described territory in St. Joseph County,
State of Indiana, be and the same is hereby annexed to and shall constitute here-
after a part of the City of South Bend, Indiana.
A tract of land in the South One -half O of the South One -half
( ) of Section Thirty -two (32), Township Thirty -eight (38) North,
Range Three (3) East, Clay Township, St. Joseph County, Indiana,
more particularly described as follows: Beginning at the center
of said Section 32; thence East 998.5 feet along the East and
West center line; thence South 660 feet, thence East 330 feet;
thence North 660 feet; thence East 773.46 feet along said East
and West center lire to a point 552.3 feet WcsL of the East
Quarter post of said Section 32; thence South 806.07 feet and
parallel with the East line of said Section 32, thence East
552.8 feet to the East line of said Section 32 to a point that
is 806.07 feet South of the said East Quarter post; thence South
250 feet; thence West 834.53 feet; thence South 275.5 feet; more
or less, to the South line of the North half of the Southeast
Quarter of said Section 32; thence Westerly along said South line
1819.45 feet to the Southwest corner of said North half of the
Southeast Quarter of said Section 32; thence still West 180.63
feet; thence North 734.27 feet to the Southwest corner of Lot
638 Wilmette Park Third Addition; thence East 140.08 feet to the
Southeast corner of said Lot Number 638; thence north 195 feet
to the Northeast corner of Lot Number 639; thence West 139.91
feet to the Northwest corner of said Lot Number 639; thence North
216.5 feet to the Southwest corner of Lot ?umber 643; thence East
739.72 feet to the Southeast corner of Lot 644 said -Wilmette Park
Third. Addition; thence Aiorth 181 feet to a point on the East and
West center line of said Section 32; thence East 40 feet to the
center of said Section 32, Township 38 North, Range 3 East to the
place of beginning, containing 64.84 acres.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage by the Common Council, approval by the Mayor of the City of South Bend,
and legal publication.

Gentlemen:
March 20, 1959
The attached petition of Portage Realty Company, Inc., 1019 South
Michigan Street, to annex the property generally described as
being bounded on the north by Hepler Street (Dunn Road), on the
east by Hickory Road, on the south by Rose Street extended, and
on the west by one lot depth west of 30th Street, said area con-
taining 64.84 acres, more or less, was legally advertised on
February 23, 1959 and given public hearing on March 5, 1959. The
following action was taken:
After due consideration it was moved, seconded and unanimously
carried that the petition be. recommended favorably to the
Common Council subject to the condition that an appropriate
area consisting of 10 acres be reserved for a period not
to exceed five years from the date of annexation for
acquisition by the School City of South Bend and further
that a like area be reserved for the same period of time
for acquisition by the City of South Bend and the Board
of Park Commissioners.
