AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 80, 81 AND 82
OF CHAPTER 29 OF GENERAL ORDINANCE NO. 3709.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indians.:
SECTION I. That Section 80 of Chapter Z91 of General Ordinance No. 3709
be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows,
For the purpose of this article inter -city trucks as used in this
section shall include every self - propelled vehicle used for the trans-
port of goods, except those operating upon tracks or carrying passengers
for hire, operating by or under a permit or license of the Public Ser-�
vice Commission of Indiana or of the United States, described as follows:
(a) From a point outside the city through the city to a point°`O

outside of the city, or
(b) From a point outside the city to a point within the city
limits, or
(c) From a point within the city limits to a point outside the
city limits.
SECTION II, That Section 81 of Chapter 29 of General Ordinance No. 3709 be
,and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
(a) Inter -city trucks as defined in paragraph (a) of the pre-
ceding section shall enter the city, pass through the city, and leave
the city upon established state or federal highways only and shall
not drive upon any other public street of the city at any time;
provided, however, that they shall be permitted to drive upon such
other public streets of the city, upon the direction of a city or state
police officer or to follow a marked and established city detour or
to obtain necessary emergency mechanical repairs.
(b) Inter -city trucks as defined in paragraph (b) of the preced-
ing section shall enter the city and proceed to the point within the
city which is their destination in accordance with the shortest comE&C bination of state or federal highways, city truck routes and access routes as shown upon a map ent itled "Schedule A, " which map shabe construed to be as much a part of this section as if it were fully set out herein. At least two copies of this map shall be on file in office of the city clerk for public inspection. Such trucks shall not � be driven upon any other public streets of the city at any time; provided, however, that it shall be permissible to drive such trucks upon such other public streets of the city upon the direction of a ci or state police officer or to follow a marked and established city
detour or to obtain necessary emergency mechanical repairs.
All inter -city trucks as defined in paragraph (b) of the preced-
ing section entering the city and proceeding to a point vathin the city
which is their destination, but which is not shown upon Schedule A
shall follow state or national highways, city truck routes and access
routes as shown on Schedule A from the point upon such routes which
is nearest to their point of beginning and shall not travel upon any
other public streets of the city, except as provided in the first para-
graph of this subsection.
(c) Inter -city trucks as defined in paragraph (c) of the pre-
ceding section shall proceed from the point within the city, which is
their starting point, to the city limits by the shortest combination of
state and federal highways, city truck routes, and access routes
shown upon Schedule A and shall not drive upon any other public streete
of the city, at any time; provided, however, that they shall be per-
mitted to drive upon such other public streets of the city, upon the
direction of a city or state police officer to follow a marked and estab-
lished city detour or to obtain necessary emergency mechanical repair.
All inter -city trucks as defined in paragraph (c) of the preceding
section proceeding to a point outside the limits from a point within
the city but which is not shown upon Schedule A shall follow state or
national routes, and access routes as shown on Schedule A from the
point upon such routes which is nearest to their point of beginning
and shall not travel upon any other public streets of the city, except
as provided in the first paragraph of this subsection.
SECTION III. That Section 82 of Chapter 29 of General Ordinance No. 3709 be
and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
(a) The Common Council of the City of South Bend shall deter-
mine such additional city truck routes as may be reasonably neces-
sary for the proper conduct of business involving the use of such inter-
city trucks and for the proper protection of the public streets of the few W
city and the proper control of such inter -city truck traffic in and up,�
the public streets. The Common Council from time to time upon it4i

SECTION IV. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage by the Common Council, its approval by the Mayor and the fulfill-
